For studies of power and desalination plants, a key concern is to reduce recirculation of warm or saltier water between the outfall and intake. Essentially this means that the outfall temperature/salinity increases in response to the intake value, on top of the change due to the plant process.

Since release 9.1, the recirculation module in TELEMAC-3D allows the recirculation for one or more sets of intakes and outfalls for tracers. The intakes and outfalls can be specified as either sources or boundary segments. Multiple intakes sources can connect to a single outfall (source or boundary) and vice versa.
